So, our first snow dusting was Dec. 5 and just now is it beginning to melt! That’s 24 days and counting ‘cuz it’s not gone yet!! Not at all what we signed up for when we moved to Vancouver Island from Southern Ontario!! Who knew that living a mere 500’ elevation (part way up Mt. Benson) instead of at sea level would make such a difference? The deer have been hungry in all of this as well and too many of my deer “resistant” plants have been nibbled…Aucubas, Hebes, X Fatshedera lizei ‘Annemieke’, Cytisus….
And, two nice big 1″+ diameter culms of the black bamboo snapped under the weight of the snow just where they were tied in place. Note to self about tying up the bamboo! Likely not the best idea if this type of snow ever happens again. Fingers crossed it doesn’t!
