Oh dear! It’s coming down. So sad, but it needs to happen. It’s an amazing world when you call the city to ask about tree removal rights and they Google your property to assess the situation! Permission was granted! After I said there would certainly be more trees planted, they even commented on the extent of the back garden! All viewable thanks to Google Earth!! What a world!
So…the long story is that this is a huge (sometimes) beautiful Walnut tree that rains catkins, chewed walnuts, leaves and dead branches on us, our car, the driveway, the neighbours. It’s horribly tangled up in the hydro lines. And our son is anaphylactically allergic to all nuts. It has to go. So sad, so sorry tree. I’ve been sweeping the extensive driveway twice a day for the last month as the squirrels nibble and chew away at the walnuts. All that stopped about 3 days ago. The walnuts are all gone. So while the tree was in a rare beautiful, non-intrusive state, we assessed whether or not we REALLY want to do this. Yes. We do. (But I feel bad.)
Now for the exciting part. Replacing it! I’m thinking likely a Katsura. Small-ish leaves, no mess, lovely fall smell. Dizzy with possibilities! Any other ideas??
